New German Wine Professional course starting in fall

The “German Wine Professional” course is the pinnacle of the German Wine Institute's (DWI) training program. You can still register for the 14-month training series until June 30, the third year of which will start in September 2025 in cooperation with the 13 wine-growing regions.

Target goup: talented professionals from the wine industry

The aim of the training is to give talented professionals from the wine industry a comprehensive and practical insight into the German wine world. It involves visiting all 13 German wine-growing regions in ten three- to four-day stages, including top-class masterclasses and first-hand information from renowned scientists, wine producers and experts.

Wide-ranging, diversified program

Professionals from the entire wine industry with several years of professional experience in the wine industry, gastronomy or trade can take part. During the 32 days of training, they will gain an in-depth insight into all areas of German viticulture, oenology and wine marketing, including exciting tastings and sensory training. The programme also includes visits to research and wine-breeding institutes, but also other areas such as wine tourism.

Certificate „German Wine Professional“

The training ends after a demanding two-day final examination with the ceremonial awarding of the German Wine Professional certificate in November 2026. 32 participants from six different countries have successfully completed the training so far. The course language is German, but the exam can also be taken in English if required.

The course fee is 3,900 euros (incl. VAT). This includes meals, company visits and comprehensive seminar documentation. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs.

Application and registration

A formal application with a letter of motivation and CV is required for the course. The deadline for submitting application documents is June 30, 2025.
